Rochester MN Home Inspector Comes Across Broken Window Seals

Failed seal in thermal window

A yearly inspection of the windows in your home can insure that the weather stripping has not been damaged and is functioning properly.  We all know how hard the wind can blow in our Southeastern MN winters.  Cold air can enter through even the smallest of gaps.  Repair damaged weathers tripping or seal small gaps with a quality silicone sealant.  On draftier windows you may choose to seal them with shrink wrap film to help save on energy usage.

Drafts can be located on windy days by slowly moving a lit candle or butane lighter near the window.  An air leak will cause the flame to flutter and help you to locate leaks that need to be sealed.  Make sure all flammable materials are out of the way so that you don’t accidently start a fire.

As first time home owners there are a lot of new things for us to learn.  You pointed out and taught us a lot about the home during the home inspection.  We are so glad Shelli referred you!  Thanks for all your help.  We also love the Basic Home Systems book.

The Price and Service was Excellent!

We have used Rick twice for home inspections, nce in 2005 when we bought our first home and again this year with the purchase of our second home. He is very professional and thourough. I like how his report is layed out with pictures. I like how he labels all the valves in the home. We never felt that he was in a rush and he came prepared to give us our printed home inspection report there on the spot. Rick will point out areas that need repair and suggest ways to fix them. I would recommend him to anyone buying or selling a home.‎
